Day 2 of Daniels Diet

Good morning,

Most people find day 2-4 the hardest. This is because your body has been used to eating filling foods like bread, meat, dairy etc. Now you are not eating them - your body has to go through a couple of days of withdrawals and  to adjust, this is when you often crave certain foods and can feel hungry.
However if you push through this time you will find it easier, your tummy starts to shrink in size and you don't need so much food to feel satisfied. This means you will be able to fit into your clothes better. One of the best everyday health tips i can give you is to eat less quantity wise and include better quality food - you will live longer and healthier.

Also some people may get more emotionally sensitive and even  irritable during the first few days of Daniels Diet (partial fast). This will pass.
if you are having extreme sugar cravings and feeling very weak physically - this indicate sugar is a major issue in your life and now is the time to overcome this issue. Make sure you are eating regularly and add some dried fruit and vegetable protein to help. If you get too weak and are feeling faint you may have to do a modified Daniels Diet i.e. you stay on Daniels Diet but include small  amounts of protein like eggs and fish. Work hard on giving up sugar  and it wont be long before you can complete Daniels diet properly.

Good Proteins are very much a part of this Health Plan

Vegetable Protein is found in legumes and pulses, brown rice, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, Brazil nuts, split peas, chickpeas, lentils, seeds and the bean family and tofu (which is why I have included tofu recipes for you).
One or more of these proteins should be included in every main meal.

My Day Plan.
  • 40 minute bike ride around the swan river.  I enjoy this exercise and doing Pilate type stretching and walking and swimming; i suggest you find what exercise you you enjoy and do that.  Weight bearing or resistance exercise is necessary for weight loss and toning your body.If you are feeling weak on the diet - don't exercise - other than general walking. Listen to your body, if it feels good then do whatever exercise you want - if struggling don't.
  • I am going to the Farmers market (see instagram) to stock up on organic foods

Breaky;  - i have already had my fibre blend drink
Veggie juice
Fruits
Lunch Mixed Salads
Afternoon teas - green tea and mixed nuts
fruit if i feel hungry or need to boost my blood sugar.
Dinner - casserole vegetables

Constipation: it is very important to be using your bowel at least once or twice daily. if your bowel is slowing down, include Psyllium husks. Prunes soaked in lemon juice is worth a try. if you are not moving your bowel daily after this - then a natural laxative of magnesium oxide is necessary (more information is in the Daniels Diet book)

Protein is important - and tofu, tempeh and lentils  are good protein

Lentil & Spinach Soup
Recipe; courtesy Genevieve Baster-Sallen from Daniels Diet.

½ packet sprouted lentils OR ¼ cup raw lentils
8-12 spinach leaves
1 cup carrot
½ cup sweet potato
¼ brown onion
¼ teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon dried herbs
1.5 cups of water
clove of garlic
If using raw lentils, place in a large pot of water and cook uncovered for 1 hour. Rinse and drain well.
In another saucepan add the water, onion, herbs, cumin, carrots, and sweet potato. Simmer for 10 – 15 minutes.  Then add the cooked or raw lentils at this time.  Gently tear the spinach leaves into bite size pieces and stir through the soup.  Carefully place in blender or food processor and blend well prior to serving with a salad of your choice
